Nancy Myrick, CNM
Primary Midwife

Nancy Myrick has been a midwife with Rites of Passage since 2003. She has been attending to women during their births in hospital, birth center & home settings since 1993.

She began assisting at home births in 1995 as an apprentice, received her RN in 2000 and completed her training in midwifery in 2003 through the UCSF Nurse Midwifery Education Program.

Prior to Midwifery, Nancy worked as a labor and postpartum doula for many years. She has done extensive research on breastfeeding and has a passion for the care and support of new families in the postpartum time.

Nancy has attended hundreds of births, her favorite being the birth of her daughter, Miranda, on a beautiful spring day in 1997.


Ami Burnham, LM, RN, IBCLC, CMT
Primary Midwife

Ami Burnham is a Licensed Midwife, Registered Nurse and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She began her healthcare career with a certificate in Massage Therapy in 1997, which led her to midwifery school two years later. Ami began attending births in 2000 as a student at the Seattle Midwifery School, a three-year direct-entry midwifery program, from where she graduated in 2002. In June of 2005 she sat for her lactation boards and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Ami returned to school in 2007 and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from San Francisco State University in May 2009.

Ami joined Rites of Passage in October 2005. She has been honored to work with thousands of wonderful families throughout their childbearing years and has attended close to 400 births since beginning her work in midwifery.

Ami has worked in San Francisco for the past 10 years as a midwife, lactation consultant, childbirth and prenatal educator as well as a facilitator for new parents groups at various locations. She has been invited to speak at midwifery and obstetric conferences as well as university classrooms and has, for the past 5 years, volunteered annually to train midwives and traditional birth attendants in Haiti and Sierra Leone.



Lisa Alden, Office Manager

Lisa is a homebirth mom of two, Certified Doula, and Washington University in St. Louis alum. She is also a Mensan and holds a Certificate in Plant Based Nutrition from Cornell and the T. Colin Campbell Foundation. Lisa began her doula work during college and continued her studies under local midwife Abigail Reagan through San Francisco's Natural Resources; she has supported moms during cesareans, home water births, VBACs, postpartum, and more. In addition to her women's health, baby, and nutrition knowledge, Lisa is experienced in both management and insurance and looks forward to supporting families through the birth year.
